These
pictures were taken at the regular monthly match of March 5, 2005.
A lovely March day - cool and sunny with a playful wind - greeted
a large field of shooters with several novice shooters trying steel
for the first time.
|
|
| Sallie
surprised her kids by taking up shooting this year. Here with her
.22 she comes with husband (and contributing photographer for this
page), Stu, to her first steel match...
|
| ..and gets some pointers
from Dave
Sevigny, IPSC World Champion.
A pretty good way to start out.
|
| Gathered in the cowboy
shack on the stage where 'Smoke
and Hope' is always set up - a perennial crowd pleaser with its
big, close targets (except that little one in the back).

Paul, Webmaster, ROs.
|
| You
can shoot in up to two gun divisions (one at a time) at the match.
Here, Randy shoots his .22 (iron sights). He is also competing in
the Open Division - that gun is holstered.
|
| Scott shoots his Colt
Python revolver from the front holster. He is also competing in the
Production Division - his Glock remains snuggled in his rear IWB
holster while he completes the revolver stage.
|
| Bart shoots his Glock
(9mm) with optical sights (Open Division) ...
|
| .. and also brought his
Open .22.
Optical (dot) sights can be a big help for shooters with near/far
focusing challenges. With iron sights you need to simultaneously see
the front sight about 3 ft away and the targets up to 75 ft away.
The apparent distance for optical sights is always about 30ft
away. Follow these links for more detail about the optical dot
sight.

| Stu shoots his 1911
conversion .22, and is also competing in Limited with a real 1911.
|
| Dave and Dana Sevigny.
|
| Daddy's little helper ...
|
| .. gets her first lesson
in steel shooting during a lull in the match. And does pretty well
with Dana's .22.
|
| Fun for all the family ..

is where you find it at the Griffin Steel Match.
